3.3V protection device offers transition
from 5V
Semtech has introduced the uClamp 3304A, a 3.3V electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device with the performance needed for next-generation portable designs.
Semtech Corp has introduced the uClamp 3304A, a 3.3V electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device with the performance needed for next-generation portable designs, and packaged into an ultra small SC-89 package that is pin compatible with 5V protection devices for a simplified board design The uClamp3304A protects up to four lines from ESD, features low leakage current for longer battery life and a low clamping voltage range for superior protection

Linear FET controllers for space-saving PSU design
Semtech has a new family of linear FET controllers that enable simple, space-saving design of distributed single and dual power supplies on primary and peripheral circuit boards.
The device's SC-89 package is one of the smallest multi-line packages available, measuring 1.7 x 1.7 x 0.6mm.
It can be dropped into designs that previously used either an SOT-666 or SC-89-based, 5V device, resulting in a more reliable solution for systems operating at below 5V.
The uClamp3304A is constructed using Semtech's patented EPD TVS process technology yielding true operating voltages.

High-density ATE pin-electronics chipset
Semtech has released a new high-performance high-density pin-electronics chipset for use in automated test equipment.
In addition to a low operating voltage, this process yields other advantages including low capacitance.
The uClamp3304A is rated for less than 30pF of capacitance, enabling its use on higher speed lines such as keypads, LEDs, and multimedia card interfaces found in today's cellular handsets.
The uClamp3304A is part of Semtech's MicroClamp ESD protection family.
The device augments the recently announced uClamp3324P, 3.3V protection device, which offers the same feature set, but is packaged in a flow-through SLP2116P8 package.
The uClamp3324P minimises the board redesign needed to upgrade from discrete multi-line varistors in applications where the designer needs to save board space or improve protection.
"The recent additions to our MicroClamp product line utilise Semtech's advances in process technology, along with packaging flexibility to give designers new options for increasing protection levels in 3.3V portable designs without sacrificing board space", said Tom Dugan, Semtech's Director of Protection Products.
"The addition of the uClamp3304A gives Semtech the most flexible product line available for these next-generation designs".
The lead-free design of the device meets worldwide environmental and regulatory requirements including the European Union's Restriction on Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive.
Key features of the uClamp3304A are: ESD protection for data lines to IEC 61000-4-2 (+/-15kV for air and +/-8kV for contact); EFT protection for data lines to IEC 61000-4-4 (5/50ns); SC-89 package (1.7 x 1.7 x 0.6mm); 3.3V of working voltage; low leakage current; low operating and clamping voltage; and protects up to four lines.
Potential applications include cellphones, PDAs, notebook computers, and digital cameras.
Semtech offers comprehensive design assistance, including field-baed and factory-based support.
Data sheets, volume pricing, and delivery quotes, as well as evaluation kits and samples, are available from the company.
