Switching regulator suits networking
tasks
A programmable 2.5MHz dual-channel 2A integrated buck switching regulator targets xDSL customer premise equipment, passive optical networking modems and network switching equipment.
Semtech has introduced the SC2440, a programmable 2.5MHz dual-channel 2A integrated buck switching regulator targeted at xDSL customer premise equipment (CPE), passive optical networking (PON) modems, and network switching equipment The SC2440 features an input voltage range of 2.8 to 20V and can generate an output voltage as low as 0.8V

Linear FET controllers for space-saving PSU design
Semtech has a new family of linear FET controllers that enable simple, space-saving design of distributed single and dual power supplies on primary and peripheral circuit boards.
Its 2.5MHz operating frequency reduces inductor and capacitor size for a compact power supply solution.
For low noise applications, the frequency can be tuned higher than the system clock to avoid interference.
Alternatively, a sync pin allows the device frequency to be synchronised with the system clock to reduce system jitter.

Semtech has released a new high-performance high-density pin-electronics chipset for use in automated test equipment.
The device's dual channels can operate independently at 2A each, or can be interleaved into a 4A output regulator for high current, low-voltage point-of-load designs.
These dual channels operate 180 degrees out-of-phase to reduce input voltage ripple and minimise input capacitor requirements.
The SC2440's current-mode regulation provides fast transient response with simple loop compensation.
It has built-in protection features such as cycle-by-cycle current limit with hiccup mode over-current protection and over-temperature shutdown.
The SC2440 also includes independent soft start and power good for sequencing the dual outputs as dictated by system needs.
"The SC2440 expands our DC/DC buck switching regulator family with a dual output, flexible regulator that is ideally suited to generate point-of-load (POL), core and I/O power supplies for DSPs, FPGAs, and ASICs in consumer and telecom applications", said Ven Shan, Vice President of Marketing for Semtech's Power Management Group.
"Further, the merits of its high 2.5MHz operating frequency and synchronisation capability are fully exploited in XDSL applications where the power supply is synchronised above the 1.1 and 2.2MHz downstream frequency bands in ADSL and ADSL2+ modem designs, respectively, resulting in high datarate transmissions".
Other products in Semtech's integrated switching regulator family consist of single output products with the following output currents: 1.5A (SC4517A), 2A (SC4518H) and 3A (SC4519H and SC4521).
The SC2440 is offered in a thermally enhanced 16-pin TSSOP-EDP package for high power designs.
The package is lead free and meets worldwide environmental requirements including the European Union's RoHS Directive.
The SC2440 is available immediately in production quantities and is priced at $1.58 each in 1000-piece lots.
Ordering code for the device is SC2440TETRT in a TSSOP-16 package.
