Setcom has developed a broad line of GPRS interoperability simulation (IOST) test cases which can be implemented on a standard GPRS protocol test system Setcom's unique development of a hardware abstraction layer enables time-efficient hardware-independent porting of IOST test cases onto individual test platforms

The use of this novel approach will result in a dramatic cost and time saving compared with traditional in-the-field testing.

Setcom's value proposition covers the most critical test areas such as network operation modes NMO1, NMO2, NMO3 and network control modes NC0, NC1 and NC2.

The set of target GPRS functionality includes GPRS paging, TBF establishment/release, RR procedures on CCCH, GMM, SM, SMS, PSI scheduling, high-speed multislot data transfer and QoS.

The subject test cases are coded in C language and once implemented onto customer's test platform will be made available in functional packets in source code.

Setcom's user-friendly implementation philosophy using standard procedures foreseen on a given test platform, excludes the need for adaptation layer yet integration effort at the customer end.

An especially developed IOST setcom application programming interface (IOST S-API) accommodates a comprehensive set of test functions used by test cases and is designed with a modular approach as a layer that allows a hassle-free communication between the test cases and user's operational software.

The IOST S-API is available as a library.

As opposed to conformance test cases, the IOST test cases have not been formalised by standardisation bodies.

"The IOST test cases fill the gap between standardised test scenarios and the interoperability issues", said Dr Klaus Matkey, Managing Director at Cetecom, Essen, Germany.

Based on a number of reference documents and publications, the subject test cases ware defined and specified in the co-operation with Cetecom.

Cetecom also warrants the validation of the IOST test cases.

The development, implementation, sale and after-market are carried out by setcom.

"Cetecom expertise in type approval and certification gives our customers the confidence that these test cases are essential for the interoperability testing.

Setcom's engineering knowhow lifts both sides' value added for the wireless community", commented Maciej Kowalik, Director of Marketing and Sales at setcom.

Setcom's stringent quality policy uses the same verification methodology for test case development and implementation as for standard conformance test cases while strictly following the guidelines on TS 51.010-1.

Additionally, the verification process has been complemented by using a number of best-in-class MS reference designs.

On-going changes of core specifications and prioritisations that may affect the IOST test cases require current updates and first-hand assistance to be provided to the user.

Recognising this need, setcom offers product maintenance and warranty service to its customer base.
