On 30th October 2006 MID 2004/22/EC came into force, a standard dictating that measuring instruments must offer high-level metrological protection so that consumers can rely on the data they generate By applying the MID CE mark, producers can prove to their customers that both the design and manufacture of their equipment is of the highest quality

The mark guarantees that the instruments are sufficiently sensitive for their intended use, durable, reliable and able to produce repeatable and reproducible data.

MID applies to all manufacturers that produce: water meters; gas meters and volume conversion devices; active electrical energy meters; measuring systems for the continuous and dynamic measurement of quantities of liquids other than water; automatic weighing instruments; taximeters; material measures; dimensional measuring instruments; and exhaust gas analysers.

All such instruments must undergo conformity assessment procedures that are controlled and delivered by notified bodies.

There are different conformity routes that are specific to different instrument types or subcategories.

SGS is a Notified Body under several European Directives appointed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Ofgem (UK Regulator) approved laboratory for gas and electricity meters. Request free introductory details about products from SGS ...
