A new range of ferrite EMI suppression cores is specifically designed for flat flex and IDC ribbon cables, giving designers more choice to optimise core size and impedance for these types of cables.

A new range of ferrite EMI suppression cores is specifically designed for flat flex cables (FFCs) and IDC ribbon cables, giving designers more choice to optimise the core size and impedance for these types of cables Slot widths ranging from 7 to over 40mm, and from 0.7mm in height, enable a snug fit over cables from eight to 64 ways

The new cores are available in a wide range of lengths, as well as solid or split formats that further extend choice and simplifies assembly.

Designers seeking to use a ferrite core with FFC and ribbon cables have typically had to make do with excessively large and bulky cores, or cores designed for other cable types such as round cables.

By expanding its range to include a comprehensive set of core sizes specifically designed for FFC and IDC ribbon cables, Steward enables designers to fit smaller, lighter cores that save cost and weight, and simplify assembly.

The new cores are constructed from high quality materials that maximise the suppression performance per volume, deliver stable impedance over a wide frequency range, and impose a low insertion loss.

Ferrite EMI cores slip over the cable to filter electromagnetic emissions, and can be used in preference to PCB mounted ferrite beads or common-mode chokes.

Steward's FFC and ribbon cable cores will improve EMI suppression on the internal data cable assemblies of equipment such as linear motion and motion control systems, robotics, SMT placement equipment, materials handling, automation equipment for warehousing or industrial processes, visual inspection equipment, printers and plotters, and other systems.

Steward's catalogue and selection guide helps designers quickly select the core that best matches the target cable dimension, and Steward applications engineers are able to offer additional assistance to verify that the chosen core is the best possible match for the customer's application.
