Freescale, Infineon and STM lead in
automotive ICs
Study reveals that IC vendor income from the automotive electronics sector rose by US $1.12 billion in 2006 compared with 2005.
The new Strategy Analytics study: "Automotive semiconductor vendor 2006 market shares" highlights an increase of US $1.12 billion in chip vendor revenues in 2006 in the automotive electronics industry, compared with 2005 With combined revenues of $5.1 billion, the report also identifies Freescale, Infineon and STMicroelectronics as the leading vendors

According to the latest Strategy Analytics' 'Connected Home Devices' research, nearly two-thirds of available networked home devices are now integrated with, or upgradeable to WiFi connectivity.
Strategy Analytics analysis of the top 21 vendor revenues shows that automotive semiconductor supplier revenues grew by 6.8% in 2006 to $17.53 billion, an increase of $1.12 billion.
Despite strong electronic system volume increases, the growth rate was down slightly compared with an increase of 7.5% in 2005.
"Chip vendors enjoyed another good year, although the revenue growth rate in 2006 was down slightly on 2005".
"This is indicative of the intense downward price pressure in the supply chain exerted by vehicle OEMs", says Chris Webber, Vice President, Global Automotive Practice.
