"Half-size" convertors shrink to comms
equipment
New from Shindengen, the Ecocell range of DC/DC convertors use synchronous rectification to achieve a size less than half that of a conventional convertor, with up to 86% efficiency.
New from Shindengen, the Ecocell range of high-efficiency SMD DC/DC convertors use synchronous rectification to achieve a size less than half that of a conventional convertor, with up to 86% power efficiency The Ecocell series was designed specifically to deliver the small footprint and low heat output demanded for telecommunications infrastructure applications such as xDSL, SDH, basestation and network switch equipment

Schottky diodes improve reverse current losses
New Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) from Shindengen address the improved output voltage requirements of today's AC adapters through dramatic improvements in reverse current.
Operating from inputs of between 36 and 75V a low-profile surface-mount Ecocell convertor can deliver up to 10W.
And unlike less sophisticated devices which exhibit a peaked power output verses efficiency curve, Ecocell convertors are designed to plateau at their maximum efficiency for reliable high performance under load conditions.
All Ecocell products have the capability to be operated with up to ten units in parallel to provide higher output power or for system redundancy.
This feature is supported by the provision of control pins for instant start up and shut down of the convertor, remote on/off and an alarm output which signals if an overvoltage, undervoltage, undercurrent or negative voltage on Vin condition is reached.
The remote on/off function can be used with the alarm output to enable automatic recovery from transitory alarm conditions.
These functions are also available for single unit operation.
