Signatrol, the dedicated datalogging division of Status Instruments, are introducing their versatile PowerWatch power quality monitor.

Unwanted power fluctuations or interruptions can cause serious problems with electronic equipment and such disturbances can be difficult to track down, often lasting for only a fraction of a second.

Power quality problems associated with computers are well known but problems with equipment such as electronic tills and alarm systems are less well understood.

For instance, touch screen tills can lock out through power disturbances and if this is undetected, then operators can inadvertently cause significant damage by continuing to push the screen before the problem is identified.

The PowerWatch data-logger simply plugs into the mains power socket and records power disturbances, providing a comprehensive log of where and when they occurred.

The unit will detect brief power interruptions as short as one millisecond, surges, pulses, power drops and frequency variations, identifying whether these occurred between live and neutral, or neutral and ground.

The PowerWatch is ideal for engineers involved in solving power quality problems and can record up to 4000 events.

A ten year battery ensures long term trouble free operation.

The PowerWatch software is a Windows based programme which guides the user quickly through initial set-up where a variety of parameter limits and thresholds can be programmed.

Recorded data can then be down-loaded to a PC or lap top and displayed in graphical or tabular format.

The PowerWatch monitor, which meets international standards for EMC emissions and susceptibility, is part of Signatrol's extensive range of data loggers and recorders.
