Amplifier IC upgrades Wi-Fi performance
High linearity Wi-Fi power amp optimises transmission of greater datarates over longer distances, allowing systems to support emerging wireless multimedia applications.
"Siemens is shaping to be a major player in the Bluetooth market, with several qualified products", said Jim Derbyshire, CEO, SiGe Semiconductor.
"Their choice of our power amplifier for the Bluetooth-USB adapter underscores our leadership in this market, which has been achieved through delivering advantages in performance and power consumption to Class 1 applications".
The PA2423MB, which was among the first products brought to market by SiGe Semiconductor, is currently in volume production and shipping to customers worldwide.
Siemens' Bluetooth-USB adapter is certified by the Bluetooth qualification programme.
"The Gigaset B427data Bluetooth-USB adapter is part of our strategy to enable wireless data networks with solutions that are effective and easy to implement", said Christoph Caselitz, President Cordless Products, Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group.
"SiGe's power amplifier was an ideal complement to our solution - it was early to market, and through extensive testing, we found the performance to be outstanding.
Incorporating the device into our product was an easy decision".
Siemens chose the PA2423MB in part because it is the most efficient power amplifier on the market.
The PA2423 delivers +22.5dBm output power with 45% power-added efficiency when operated in class AB mode.
This performance extends the transmission range, and overcomes antenna and filter losses while meeting regulatory requirements.
This level of performance was achieved through the use of silicon germanium BiCMOS processes, which also enable high integration and low power consumption for extended battery life.
With integrated patent-pending output power control and ramping circuitry, the PA2423MB eases implementation, and eliminates requirements for external control ICs, saving the associated board space, cost, and power consumption.
