SiGe Semiconductor has named Bill Haberlin vice president of sales.

As the newest member of SiGe's senior management team, Haberlin will assume responsibility for the company's global sales organisation, managing customer relationships, field applications engineering support, and distribution channels.

The announcement comes as SiGe enters a new phase of development, during which the company will bring existing products to volume production, and introduce new product lines for niche opportunities in the broadband and wireless markets.

Over the next year, SiGe will deliver industry-leading integrated circuits to the broadband cable telephony, set-top box, digital television, Bluetooth, and 802.11a and 802.11b WLAN markets.

"SiGe is entering a critical phase in development, and Bill's proven track record and established relationships will ensure our leadership with entry into key global accounts", said Jim Derbyshire, president and CEO, SiGe Semiconductor.

"As we launch new products into these emerging markets, Bill will expand our customer base, identify partnership opportunities, and build upon our collaborative approach to IC design that enables first-time success".

Haberlin brings to his position over 15 years of experience in the communications semiconductor industry.

Prior to SiGe, he served as the director of sales at Zarlink Semiconductor, where he managed applications support, product introductions and relationships with major customers including Nortel, Lucent, Motorola, and Panasonic.

Haberlin has also held the roles of regional sales manager at GEC Plessey Semiconductors, as well as vice president of sales, and sales engineer at Stone Component Sales Corp.

Haberlin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from University of Wisconsin.
