The PA2423L has become the second Class 1 Bluetooth power amplifier from SiGe to be selected by CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) for integration on CSR's BlueCore1 modules.

The PA2423L has become the second Class 1 Bluetooth power amplifier from SiGe to be selected by CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) for integration on CSR's BlueCore1 modules Replacing the current PA with the PA2423L delivers a two-thirds reduction in module size, making it ideal for a range of small to large Bluetooth-enabled devices including cellular phones, PCs, workstations, PCMCIA cards and access points

"After using SiGe's power amplifier for our first reference design, we knew the performance and power consumption were the best available.

Their ability to now reduce form factor has made SiGe an ideal partner for the continued development of our BlueCore1 modules", said Glenn Collinson, co-founder and Marketing Director, CSR.

Packaged in a 6-lead LPCC that measures only 1.6 x 3.0mm, the PA2423L is the world's smallest fully encapsulated Bluetooth Class 1 power amplifier.

The PA2423L also provides leading performance to ensure high signal integrity in real-world Bluetooth environments.

The device has +22.5dBm output power with 45% power-added efficiency when operated in class AB mode, which extends the transmission range, and overcomes antenna and filter losses while meeting regulatory requirements.

CSR's BlueCore1 module includes a CMOS-based radio, baseband, microcontroller, Bluetooth software stack and CMOS RF transceiver.

BlueCore1 is the most-widely used Bluetooth radio on the market, integrated in 50% of all qualified Bluetooth-enabled products as listed on the SIG website.

Companies including Sony, IBM, Compaq, LG, Xircom, NEC, Fujitsu, ALPS, TDK and Mitsumi have integrated the technology into consumer Bluetooth devices such as laptop/notebook PCs, PDAs, access points, printers and cellular phones and headsets.

"SiGe is pleased to provide continued support to CSR's industry leading BlueCore1 designs", said Jerry Loraine, vice president wireless business unit, SiGe Semiconductor.

"We've worked very closely with CSR's team to deliver a power amplifier that enables Bluetooth wireless technology in a broader range of applications".
