Samsung Electro-Mechanics is using the RangeCharger PA2423L power amplifier in its BlueSEM-CI Class 1 Bluetooth module, which is shipping to customers now.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics is using the RangeCharger PA2423L power amplifier in its BlueSEM-CI Class 1 Bluetooth module, which is shipping to customers now, and is expected to be widely integrated into consumer, industrial and automotive applications that require high performance, stability and reliability "Samsung Electro-Mechanics is a leading supplier of Bluetooth solutions in Korea, and we are happy to be working with them on the BlueSEM module", said Bill Cuming, Vice President, Optical, Cable And Components, SiGe Semiconductor

"The solution will help to ensure our continued leadership in this market, since it provides OEMs with significant benefits that will secure its integration in a wide range of Bluetooth products".

The BlueSEM-CI pairs SiGe's PA2423L power amplifier with the BlueCore2 radio from Cambridge Silicon Radio, enabling a module that is small, power efficient and extremely high in performance.

SiGe's PA2423L contributes to these benefits with a highly efficient silicon germanium architecture that boosts power output.

The device produces +22.5dBm output power with 45% power-added efficiency including matching circuit losses.

This allows antenna and filter losses to be overcome, thereby ensuring stable operation over the full transmission range of typically 100m.

The PA2423L also enables extremely low current consumption and high integration.

Packaged in a 6-lead LPCC that measures only 1.6 x 3.0mm, the PA2423L is the world's smallest fully encapsulated Bluetooth Class 1 power amplifier.

"When choosing radio components for the BlueSEM, we looked for a total solution that was proven for performance and easy integration", said Ung-Han Moon, Senior Manager, R and D, Samsung Electro-Mechanics.

"SiGe's power amplifier was the natural choice.

The device seamlessly interfaced with the radio IC, and together, the solution allowed us to quickly design a module that met all of our requirements".
