MOSFETs improve 12V-input converter efficiency
Two new 20V HEXFET power MOSFET families from International Rectifier are designed to increase efficiency by up to 4% in 12V-input DC/DC convertors.
In DDR memory circuits, the new IRU3039 can be used to provide both the core voltage (VDDQ) and termination voltage (VTT).
Overcurrent protection is achieved by monitoring the synchronous mosfet on-resistance, enhancing convertor efficiency and reducing cost by eliminating the current sense resistor.
The onboard regulator cuts component count, while an internal linear regulator enables a compact and flexible solution for single supply up to 18V applications.
The single output voltage can be programmed as low as 0.8V for low-voltage applications.
The IRU3039 features programmable switching frequency up to 400kHz, which can shrink circuit size with smaller inductors and output capacitors.
Other features include a capacitor-programmable soft-start function, an uncommitted error amplifier available for DDR voltage tracking applications and a 0.8V precision reference voltage with 2% output voltage accuracy over the entire operating temperature range.
The IRU3039 is packaged in 20-pin MLPQ, allowing for both small size and good thermal characteristics for high frequency as well as high input supply applications.
