Standard convertors aim for space
missions
A new family of standard "off-the-shelf" DC/DC convertors aims to solve the space industry's problems of lengthy design cycles and extensive design analysis requirements for custom units.
A new family of standard "off-the-shelf" DC/DC convertors aims to solve the space industry's problems of lengthy design cycles and extensive design analysis requirements for custom units The new AMA Series (5W), AMF Series (12W) and AMR Series (30W) radiation-tolerant, high-reliability DC/DC convertors are standard, off-the-shelf and proven units designed for extended operation in moderate radiation environments

International Rectifier has introduced the world's first 1000V radiation-hardened power MOSFET.
MOSFETs improve 12V-input converter efficiency
Two new 20V HEXFET power MOSFET families from International Rectifier are designed to increase efficiency by up to 4% in 12V-input DC/DC convertors.
Small size and low mass make the parts ideal for point-of-load regulators or as a building block in a power system for low earth orbit (LEO) satellites and launch vehicles.
The AMA, AMF and AMR convertors feature high tolerance to total ionising dose (TID greater than 25krad), heavy ion single event effects (SEE greater than 60MeV-cm2/mg) and environmental stresses such as temperature extremes, mechanical shock and vibration.
Radiation test data, which include TID and SEE, are available.
The new DC/DC convertors have a 28V input, with standard output voltages of 3.3, 5, 12 and 15V for single output models, and 15, 112 and 115V for dual output models.
These convertors are also available with both single and dual output.
A separate MIL-STD-461C compliance filter is available.
AMA series convertors weigh less than 32g, with an outline of 44.1 x 28.7 x 8.4mm.
AMF series convertors weigh less than 36g, and have an outline of 53.3 x 35.1 x 8.4mm.
The AMR series convertors weigh less than 68g, with an outline of 69.6 x 38.9 x 10.4mm.
Operating temperature for each of the convertors is -55 to 125C.
The devices have MIL-STD-461C, CE03 and CS01 compliance with an external filter.
