Hybrid convertors promise reliable DC
power
The high-reliability AHP line of high-power high-density hybrid DC/DC convertors is designed for digital and analogue circuits that require a well regulated power source.
International Rectifier has introduced the high-reliability AHP line of high-power high-density hybrid DC/DC convertors for digital and analogue circuits that require a well regulated power source The AHP convertor family features an added overvoltage protection circuit on the input of the device while maintaining backward compatibility to the IR AFL convertor series and other industry-standard convertors

MOSFETs improve 12V-input converter efficiency
Two new 20V HEXFET power MOSFET families from International Rectifier are designed to increase efficiency by up to 4% in 12V-input DC/DC convertors.
Building on the merits of IR's AFL series convertors, the AHP series offers as high as 87% efficiency and a power density of as much as 84W/in3.
The new series of convertors uses 25% fewer internal components, increasing reliability compared with the AFL series.
The AHP series convertors are designed to function continuously in rugged environments typically encountered in military and aerospace applications.

MOSFETs improve power density on both sides
New from International Rectifier are two TO-220-packaged HEXFET power MOSFETs that maximise power density and performance in primary- and secondary-side DC/DC convertor circuits.
Rad-hard MOSFETs protect and survive
With high radiation hardness and unparalleled single event effect (SEE) immunity, International Rectifier's new R5 MOSFETs are well suited for systems that must survive penetrating gamma rays.
The AHP input overvoltage protection will shut down the convertor at 110% of the maximum-rated input voltage and will restart when the input voltage drops below this threshold.
The AHP convertors also feature high power density with no derating over the temperature range -55 to +125C.
This series is offered as part of a complete family of convertors providing single and dual output voltages and operating from nominal 270V DC input and outputs of 3.3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 15, 28, +/-5, +/-12, and +/-15V and power ratings from 80 to 120W.
For applications requiring higher output power, individual convertors can be operated in parallel.
The internal current sharing circuits assure equal current distribution among the paralleled convertors.
This series incorporates IR's proprietary magnetic pulse feedback technology that provides optimum dynamic line and load regulation response.
This feedback system samples the output voltage at the pulsewidth modulator fixed clock frequency, nominally 550kHz.
Multiple convertors can be synchronised to a system clock in the 500 to 700kHz range or to the synchronisation output of one convertor.
Undervoltage lockout, primary and secondary referenced inhibit, soft start and load fault protection are provided on all modules.
These convertors are hermetically packaged in two enclosure variations, using copper core pins to minimise resistive DC losses.
Three lead configurations are available.
IR's rugged ceramic lead-to-package seal and low profile (9.65mm) welded seam package assures hermeticity for long-term reliability in harsh environments.
The AHP convertors are available in four screening grades to satisfy a wide range of requirements including CH grade, which is fully compliant with the requirements of MIL-H-38534 for class H.
Variations in electrical, mechanical and screening can be accommodated.
