SiRF plans major push at 3GSM World Congress
SiRF Technology Holdings is preparing several new product, platform, alliance and technology announcements at the upcoming 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
SiRF Technology Holdings, a provider of GPS-enabled silicon and location-software platforms, is preparing several new product, platform, alliance and technology announcements at the upcoming 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
Taken together, these announcements will demonstrate how Sirf is combining the key elements of the location ecosystem to drive down the cost and accelerate the development of new location platforms, thus enabling wireless carriers to support a wide range of location-based services with greater efficiency.

SiRF will be showcasing and demonstrating many new location-enabled products and technologies at the show.
Among the announcements SiRF will make are: a new product, SiRFstarIII GSD3t, that uses architectural innovations and advanced technology to enable mobile phone manufacturers to add industry leading SiRFstarIII Multimode AGPS performance to their products at minimal cost and size; an availability breakthrough for location-based services through a partnership with Skyhook to deliver a positioning system, SiRF's Multimode Hybrid Location Platform, that combines both GPS and Wi-Fi location data to provide instant and accurate location information both indoors and outdoors; An alliance with Openwave, a leading supplier of mobility infrastructure to wireless operators and ASPs worldwide, to integrate SiRF's SiRFLoc Multimode location server with Openwave's Location Manager, significantly reducing the time to deployment for location enabled services; a key technical milestone towards the widespread adoption of location enabled services through successful Secure User Plane for Location (SUPL) protocol interoperability testing with NEC, a leading supplier of location-information infrastructure; Collaboration with NXP Semiconductors (the newly independent semiconductor company founded by Philips), a leading supplier of wireless platforms to mobile phone industry, to location enable 3G handsets by integration of SiRFstarIII AGPS solution onto Nexperia cellular system platform; Sirf also recently announced that it is bringing the benefit of location awareness to the users of to ultramobile PCs (UMPC), an emerging mobile platform, with ASUS launching industry's first ultramobile PC Asus R2H with integrated SiRFstarIII GPS capabilities.
