Transtector has expanded its ALPU series of advanced lightning protection units.
Lightning protectors have gigabit Ethernet covered
The ALPU Series of lightning protectors now includes units that are suitable for protecting gigabit Ethernet systems using fast-acting silicon avalanche suppression diodes.
The unit enables NEC 830 compliance for single point grounding and demarcation purposes.
The ALPU features Transtector's leading silicon diode technology to provide a faster response time and lower voltage protection levels.
It is designed to protect Ethernet 10/100Mbit/s lines and two 24V DC power lines by being installed as close to any outdoor or roof penetration point equipment as possible.
Installing a second ALPU near any power adapters provides optimal protection.
"All outdoor equipment, even with built in suppression protection, is susceptible to lightning damage, either through direct or close proximity strikes.
Additional protection is recommended in the event of such an event to protect against equipment failure due to catastrophic energy burst or improper grounding" said Amy Martin, Marketing Director at Proxim Corp.
"The ALPU-TSU provides the highest levels of equipment protection and reliability many users demand".
Proxim's Tsunami family of wireless Ethernet bridges provides network connections between switches or routers that are located from one to more than 40 miles apart.
Throughput rates range from 16 to 872Mbit/s.
They have successfully installed over 45,000 nodes worldwide.
