The ALPU Series of lightning protectors now includes units that are suitable for protecting gigabit Ethernet systems using fast-acting silicon avalanche suppression diodes.

The ALPU Series of lightning protectors now includes units that are suitable for protecting gigabit Ethernet systems using fast-acting silicon avalanche suppression diodes and reduced capacitance protection circuitry that permits high signal bandwidth.

More, Transtector Systems has developed its OEM customisation program such that over 12 different configurations are available on 2 week lead times.

Comments Dan Rebeck, Electrical Engineer: "Previously, gas tubes have been used for Gig-E over copper applications because of their minimal impact on signal integrity".

"Our new topology allows us to reap the benefits of the fast response time and clamping performance of SASDs while maintaining a TIA Cat-5e compliant network connection".

"We have also verified Cat-5e compliance with a protection device installed at each end of a 100m cable run, which is the recommended protection configuration for proximity lightning strikes".

All ALPU Series units deliver protection to IEC61000-4-5 standards, and they can protect up to eight Cat-5e pairs as well as several configurations of DC power for POE applications.

They are designed to self-sacrifice in the event of a catastrophic event, taking protected equipment offline.

ALPU protection units measure 5.5i high, by 4in wide and 3in deep.

Metal or plastic enclosures are rated NEMA 3R rainproof.

Connection is easy with an insulation displacement connector (IDC), screw terminal or RJ45 connector, and an external 0.25-20 bolt to connect chassis and shield drain to ground.

Transtector's ALPU units are available through distribution channels and priced between $90 and $500.
