CCDs suit high-resolution cameras
High-sensitivity charge-coupled devices support quarter- and third-inch optical systems.
Sharp is launching a new line-up of high-sensitivity charge-coupled devices (CCDs) supporting quarter- and third-inch optical systems.
Qualities such as industry-leading sensitivity and low smear make these CCDs ideal for use in a wide range of high-resolution camera applications such as surveillance.
Especially in the surveillance camera market, growing awareness regarding security issues has created an ever-increasing demand for higher picture quality.
The six new CCD models feature a total pixel counts of 470,000, 410,000, 320,000 and 270,000 for the quarter-inch RJ24xxx types and 470,000 and 410,000 for the third-inch RJ23xx type CCD.
These modules meet the demands of mainstream high-resolution miniature CCD products such as surveillance cameras.
The upcoming CCDs provide sensitivities of 600, 1100 or 1200mV, which is significantly higher than existing models and makes images of perfect clarity possible.
Additionally, the imaging quality has been significantly improved with 15dB less smear than at present to a ratio of -114 and -120dB.
The new line-up of CCD models provides pin compatibility with existing models which allows an easy upgrade to high-resolution cameras simply by exchanging the CCDs.
Sharp offers the CCD modules as complete system solution with CCD, peripheral IC and signal processing LSI.
Samples of the six new CCD models are now available worldwide via Sharp distribution offices and distribution partners.
Sharp already offers quarter-inch CCDs with 320,000 and 270,000 pixels in large quantities.
Mass production for the remaining CCD models is scheduled to start in Q4 2006.
