Robust medium-format display combines high image quality, an extended temperature range and low power consumption.

Sharp Microelectronics Europe is adding the 7.5in TFT LCD LQ075V3DG01 - a new and robust medium-format display - to its Strong2 product series The LCD is characterised by high image quality, an extended temperature range and low power consumption

These modules are therefore particularly designed for mobile applications in the industrial sector and are used, for example, as a portable measuring device or medical handheld.

The new Strong2 LCD offers excellent clarity even in poor ambient light - a particularly important benefit for mobile use.

With a display luminance of 400cd/m2, 260,000 colours and a contrast ratio of 600:1, the LCD also satisfies the highest requirements for outdoor use.

Sharp achieves the high contrast ratio with the Strong2 LCDs thanks to an optimum pathway of the pixels' voltage potential when the appliance is switched on.

The display is also designed for lower power consumption.

The Strong2 modules are considerably more resistant to changes in temperature and are more shock-resistant than conventional displays.

Both in operating and off mode the panels are able to withstand temperatures of -30 to +80C thanks to improved polarisers and RGB filters.

This is particularly relevant for outdoor use and also in industrial applications in which the displays are exposed to strong fluctuations in temperature due to process and waste heat.

The display is also less sensitive to shocks.

For new materials and a new design of the housing of the LC display ensure that jolts and vibrations can be specifically absorbed.

This means that the new 7.5in LCD is considerably more reliable than conventional displays.

The background lighting is also characterised by a long life cycle of 50,000 hours.

When necessary, the backlight - as is usual with Sharp industry displays - can be easily replaced.

In future, an additional 7.5in Strong2 LCD model with SVGA resolution and LVDS interface is planned.

The uniform housing will ensure a high level of mechanical compatibility.

This will allow the application to be upgraded more quickly and at reduced cost because time and cost-intensive adaptations of the mechanical design will no longer be necessary.

Samples of the LQ075V3DG01 are available immediately on request worldwide via the Sharp sales offices and distribution partners.

The start of series production is scheduled for Q4 2006.
