Semikron has demonstrated the versatility and scalability of its SEMiX family of IGBT half-bridge modules with the introduction of the SEMiX4.

Semikron has demonstrated the versatility and scalability of its SEMiX family of IGBT half-bridge modules with the introduction of the SEMiX4 With a height of only 17mm compared with the 30mm of standard modules, SEMiX4 handles a maximum DC current of 900A in dimensions of 183 x 69mm the most compact half-bridge module available in the power market for this rating

The SEMiXTM4 IGBT modules can be used for motor powers of more than 90kW and are available in half-bridge and brake chopper topologies.

Units are available for currents in the range of 600 to 900A.

The SEMiX platform design has three module sizes available for various power classes.

Modules are available in 600, 1200 and 1700V IGBT3 trench technology, especially designed for switching frequencies up to 6kHz.

The 1200V modules are also available in soft punch through (SPT) technology, for switching frequencies above 6kHz.

The main advantage of the SEMiX family is its versatility.

It supports both external and internal drivers (IPM).

For external drivers, the module incorporates a standard plug connector.

An inverter can be configured separately using a six pack or even thermally isolated half-bridges.

Configurations with half-bridges can produce approximately 20% less thermal resistance.

If the temperature is constant, this leads to a 15% increase in current load capacity or a 10 to 15C reduction in chip temperature, which in turn increases endurance.

The modules incorporate a controlled axial lifetime (CAL) freewheeling diode, to provide high dynamic robustness and reduce EMI throughout the temperature range.

Semikron's SEMiX2 IGBT module is one of the smallest half-bridge modules available.

It is rated at a maximum DC current of 470A, but is housed in a package measuring only 117 x 62 x 17mm.

It is intended for use with motors rated in the range 30 to 55kW.

The SEMiX3 half-bridge and SEMiX33c compatible six-pack modules are well established in markets for motor drive inverters and uninterruptible power supplies.

They are rated at currents from 250 to 700A, for use with motors in the 55 to 110kW range.

Inverters of higher power ratings can be produced by connecting several half-bridges in parallel.
