Semikron has improved its Semikube power electronics platform by teaming it with its Skyper Pro and driver adapter board to provide higher integration and intelligence It has also added a lower-rated cube to this compact, easy to maintain and flexible system for forced air-cooled inverters - the latest development from the unique global network of nine Semikron solution centres

In addition to the embedded functions and protection offered by Skyper Pro, such as soft turnoff and external error input, the Semikube platform now has: AC current, heatsink temperature and DC voltage analogue outputs (galvanic isolation to 4kV between primary and secondary); overcurrent protection; overtemperature protection; over DC-voltage protection; and current imbalance monitoring between the paralleled modules.

A "last-fault" LED indicator helps the maintenance team to detect the origin of a recurring stop, even after the inverter has restarted.

The new addition to the family, Semikube Half, has a footprint of only 154 x 306mm.

The rectifier, inverter, sensors, drivers and capacitors neatly fit into this small space.

Developed for drives rated between 60 and 110kW, this smaller version of the larger Semikube models maintains the excellent power/volume ratio of the platform, while extending at the lower-power end.

The Semikube platform is available in six different sizes for forced air-cooled inverters from 160 to 1550A.

The calculated lifetime is more than 60kh under harsh conditions at a 45C cabinet temperature.

Similar Semikube blocks are connected in various mechanical and electrical arrangements to achieve the desired electrical and mechanical performance.

The low inductive bus connector allows for fast connection and disconnection.

The cubic form of the blocks enables the Semikube to be installed in the cabinet in a horizontal or vertical orientation.

Capacitors in the Semikube range are forced air-cooled, guaranteeing a long life expectancy and avoiding the occurrence of hot spots.

The excellent symmetry of the busbar system between the capacitor blocks and the IGBT modules ensures optimum current sharing between the modules and between the capacitors.

All six sizes use the same spare parts.

This ensures easy integration, plug-and-play capability and easy maintenance.

Strong emphasis was placed on reducing the number of parts during the design phase to achieve the best balance between economy and performance.
