DECT module adapts to the US market

A SiTel Semiconductor product story

Cordless voice module is now available with DECT 6.0 support, covering the 1920-1930MHz frequency band recently allocated in the USA for unlicensed personal communication services.

SiTel Semiconductor has developed a DECT 6.0 cordless voice module for the US market.

The CVM module integrates a radio transceiver and baseband with a complete protocol stack on a single chip, and has been a success for more than three years.

This module enabled system designers to design more easily and cost-effectively a DECT or 2.4GHz cordless application.

In this way the CVM adds cordless phone functionality to their products.

SiTel developed the CVM in co-operation with RTX Telecom, a Denmark-based wireless product developer.

The module is now available with DECT 6.0 support, which is the frequency band recently allocated (1920-1930MHz) in the USA for unlicensed personal communication services (UPCS).

The standard CVM DECT Flash version can be used by just reflashing the module with the new DECT 6.0 software.

The cordless voice modules are used in cordless telephones, point of sale terminals, intercom systems, cordless conference phones and cordless headsets.

Due to consumer need in North America for an interference free cordless voice standard, the market acceptance of DECT 6.0 is accelerating.

Besides the quiet, clean spectrum, DECT 6.0 offers solid security standards, ensuring private conversations and better range than 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz phone systems.

The rapid growth of WLAN and Wi-Fi products in the home is the main reason for the expected success of DECT 6.0, as this UPCS band is interference free.

"SiTel's cordless voice module with DECT 6.0 software, allows our customers to develop easily and fast new cordless products, taking advantage of this new US interference free frequency band", says Arend van der Weijden, SiTel Semiconductor Marketing and Sales Director.

"It also allows new customers to make cordless products, where they weren't previously feasible, because of complexity, sise or cost".
