SMART Modular Technologies has expanded its PC1600/2100 module lineup to include 1Gbyte double-datarate dual-inline memory modules (DIMMs).

SMART Modular Technologies has expanded its PC1600/2100 module lineup to include 1Gbyte double-datarate dual-inline memory modules (DIMMs).

These modules run at a speed of 200 or 266MHz and have been qualified for use with ServerWorks' next-generation Grand Champion chipset.

Together they offer a high-performance memory and chipset configuration to support the high bandwidths and data throughputs that characterise the CPUs used in today's powerful Internet and networking appliances.

SMART's 1Gbyte PC1600/2100 DDR DIMMs are well suited for memory-intensive two- and four-way servers because they move data up to 1.6 or 2.1Gbyte/s, twice as fast as standard PC100/133 SDRAM modules.

These modules use a stack-based technology to achieve 1Gbyte capacities, yet they do not require mechanical redesigns or occupy additional board space.

"Four-way servers are currently using an average of 3.5Gbyte of memory per system", said David Dorrough, Memory Manager for ServerWorks, a Santa Clara-based chipset designer and developer for Intel-based servers and server appliances.

"SMART's 1Gbyte DDR DIMMs adhere to the same performance and quality standards as monolithic-based DIMMs, and combined with our Grand Champion chipset, they make an excellent sourcing option to meet the demand for additional memory".

"This module represents another example of SMART's leadership in introducing advanced memory solutions", said Mike Rubino, SMART's Vice President of Engineering.

"Fulfilling the constantly increasing demand for higher module density and performance becomes more challenging as memory technologies evolve.

SMART continues to invest in emerging memory standards to provide OEMs with the earliest possible access to these solutions while maintaining the highest levels of quality and reliability that their applications require".
