Fast memory modules squeeze into 1U
SMART Modular Technologies has announced the availability of unbuffered 200-pin double data rate small outline dual in-line memory modules (DDR SO-DIMMs).
Double the datarate from big byte DIMMs
SMART Modular Technologies has expanded its PC1600/2100 module lineup to include 1Gbyte double-datarate dual-inline memory modules (DIMMs).
Built onto a 14-pin small-inline-package (SIP) module, SMART's low-voltage switching regulators lower system design costs by reducing the need for expensive DC/DC brick-type regulators and significantly reducing the overall component count.
SMART's voltage regulators provide a range of lower output voltages to multiple subsystems without redesigning the central power supply.
They also address the industry's need to provide multiple output voltages from a single source.

The SMART Universal Flash Memory Card provides a universal hardware/software interface between most linear-based Flash memory arrays and host operating platforms.
SMART has been working with low-voltage power specialist Volterra to develop and deploy modular solutions incorporating ICs based on Volterra's proprietary technology.
"Volterra's goal is to become the premier supplier of low-voltage power delivery in the computing, telecomms, DSP, datacomms and broadband communications markets", said Gary Pinelli, Volterra's Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
"SMART's well established advanced modular packaging reputation and its deep OEM customer base provide a broad and ready audience for the rapid deployment of this in-demand technology".
SMART's voltage switching regulators can cut design costs and may offer many other benefits that enhance performance.
The small footprint of the low-profile device uses approximately 70% less board space and usually simplifies design.
SMART's voltage regulators are generally less expensive and more reliable than current power sourcing regulators because it uses approximately 60% fewer components.
These devices have been demonstrated to use up to 40% less power and operate at greater than 90% efficiency at 1.8V.
Moreover, SMART's voltage regulators do not require either external capacitance or a heatsink, further lowering cost.
"These voltage regulators are an exciting new product line", said Arthur Sainio, SMART's Product Marketing Manager.
"This innovative technology allows SMART to more fully support its OEM customers with a wider range of technology solutions.
It also helps fulfill the growing need by system designers in the telecomms, datacomms and networking market segments to use low-voltage, small form factor, high-performance voltage switching regulators".
