Compact convertors handle the heat onbaord

The DV (vertical mount) and DH (horizontal mount) convertors are available in a compact 41 x 17 x 5.2mm form factor and are currently in production.

The new DV/DH series converters provide an extremely efficient, fast and reliable solution designed to meet the requirements of emerging high-current, low-voltage systems and incorporates an enhanced thermal design.

The DV/DH series has been designed to provide full output current when operating temperatures reach 85C, outperforming other DC/DC convertors in the market today that only supply roughly half of their rated current in high-temperature environments.

"The improved thermal design and output current efficiencies, up to 95%, offered by the DV/DH series allow designers to concentrate on the functionality of product rather than the operating temperature's effect on the DC/DC convertor", said Greg Irby, VRM Product Manager for SMART.

"SMART continues to design and develop quality DC/DC convertor products to ensure reliability and sustained peak performance even in more adverse environmental conditions".

With the ability to accept a 3.3 or 5V input (full input range of 3.0 to 5.5V) and delivering 3 to 7A at 0.7 to 3.3V, the DV/DH series can accommodate many DSPs, FPGAs and microcontrollers that operate at lower voltages.

These new convertors offer standard features that include remote sense, output enable and output voltage trim, coupled with the ability to operate at higher efficiencies, resulting in less power dissipation, overall lower temperatures and higher MTBF.
