Low-latency memory modules boost server
speed
Low-latency PC2100 registered double-datarate memory modules increase memory speeds for high-performance computing and server applications.
Low-latency PC2100 registered double-datarate (DDR) memory modules increase memory speeds for high-performance computing (HPC) and server applications Certain industry reports suggest that as memory bandwidth increases, latencies become the limiting factor in overall system performance

Double the datarate from big byte DIMMs
SMART Modular Technologies has expanded its PC1600/2100 module lineup to include 1Gbyte double-datarate dual-inline memory modules (DIMMs).
SMART's lineup of PC2100 low latency registered DIMMs featuring a 2.1Gbyte/s data throughput rate and CAS latency timings of 2-2-2 (CAS delay, RAS-to-CAS delay, precharge) are currently available.
A comparison of industry-standard PC2100 registered 2.5-3-3 DIMMs with PC2100 2-2-2 low latency DIMMs shows that the 2-2-2 DIMMs provide data out in 30ns (+tAC) compared with 41.25ns (+tAC) for 2.5-3-3 DIMMs.
The memory performance gained translates into obtaining faster central processing unit (CPU) speeds depending on the application and chipset.
A server using lower latency DIMMs from SMART can read and write to the memory in fewer clock cycles than a standard latency DIMM without sacrificing memory stability or density.
For HPC applications that use very intensive read/write cycles in a high reliability environment, super-low latency 2-2-2 DDR266 DIMMs can help maximise system memory performance.
Intel has validated SMART's low latency PC2100 registered DIMMs on Xeon-based Prestonia server reference platform featuring the Plumas-533 chipset (533MHz front side bus).
Such validation means that compliance with Intel's specifications and compatibility with Intel reference systems with Intel chipsets has been verified.
