Bluetooth RS232 adapters aim for industrial uses
SMART Modular Technologies has a new range of Bluetooth 1.1 compliant RS232 adapters and serial modules for the industrial market.
Complete with an onboard antenna, an embedded Bluetooth communications stack (with Bluetooth SPP) and an embedded configuration utility, the SMART RS232 adapter features auto-sensing of power either from its external power adapter or from the host device (via pin 9).
Power consumption is specified at less than 150mA maximum during continuous operation, with 100 to 120mA typical.
During sleep mode, power consumption drops to below 1mA.
Offering maximum data transfer rates up to 200Kbit/s, the RS232 adapter supports Class 2 operation (+2dBm typical transmit power with a maximum range of 30m).
"Enthusiastic market demand has caused SMART to ramp up to high-volume production of our RS232 adapter", said Robert Ragusano, Vice President and General Manager of SMART's Communication Products Division.
"Domestic and international volume shipments are an excellent indicator of global acceptance and upswing of Bluetooth technology across a variety of consumer and industrial products".
