Two new series of 10Gbit/s optical transceiver products are designed for use in 10Gbit Ethernet and 10Gbit Fibre Channel.

Sumitomo Electric Industries has developed two new series of 10Gbit/s optical transceiver products for use in 10Gbit Ethernet and 10Gbit Fibre Channel.

The SXP3101 series is a part of the XFP transceiver family, which is fully compliant with both the IEEE802.3ae and XFP MSA specifications.

The new XFP transceiver features a serial 10Gbit/s XFI electrical interface, which eliminates the need for a serdes inside the module, saving power and space.

The new XFP transceiver is thus suitable for higher port density applications in datacomms and telecomms systems.

The SDX4101 series is a part of the X2 transceiver family, which is fully compliant with both IEEE802.3ae and the X2 MSA specifications.

This X2 transceiver features XAUI and MDIO interface for a direct upgrade of the Xenpak transceiver, with a smaller footprint and lower power consumption.

Sumitomo Electric also plans to release the Sonet/SDH compliant transceivers shortly.

The new transceivers will be demonstrated next week on Sumitomo Electric's booth (3404) at OFC 2003 in Atlanta, Georgia.
