I/O controllers embed into industrial designs
A new family of I/O controllers will enable system design engineers to standardise on a single part across a wide range of applications with similar characteristics.
USB PHY sets the gold standard
The USB3500 is an UTMI+ stand-alone, host or On The Go (OTG) transceiver that has passed Hi-Speed USB compliance testing with the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF).
SMSC's USB3280 mini UTMI stand-alone PHY supports the 8bit bidirectional UTMI SIE/PHY interface, and provides a reduction of 20 pins and a footprint reduction of more than 40% compared with existing solutions.
As a result, discrete USB transceiver implementations are optimised to support device functionality.
"With the introduction of the USB3280 mini UTMI device PHY, SMSC has further expanded its family of industry leading Hi-Speed USB PHYs", said Steve Nelson, Vice President of Marketing - Connectivity Solutions at SMSC.
"Customers are asking for smaller footprint stand-alone PHYs for their portable consumer electronics products with the flexibility of supporting a variety of physical layer interface standards".
"As the go-to PHY solutions provider, we continue to build this family of products to meet our customer's requirements today as well as providing a migration path for future requirements".
"SMSC is also adding support for the 8bit bidirectional UTMI PHY interface through the USB3280, which can be utilised today in products such as MP3 players, PDAs, cellphones and digital still cameras".
"In combination with other recently introduced PHYs, SMSC is supporting ASIC and SoC designers who require the performance and time-to-market advantages of a proven stand-alone solution".
"Additionally, with the variety of SIE/PHY interfaces supported, SMSC can meet customer's long-term requirements as they migrate from the 16bit UTMI interface, to 8bit UTMI, to ULPI and beyond".
The USB3280 is available in a 6 x 6 x 0.9mm 36-pin QFN package.
Qualification samples and production quantities of the SMSC USB3280 PHY are available today.
Pricing is $2.00 per unit (US list price) in 10,000-unit quantities.
