The highly-integrated USB to UART bridge reduces board space, simplifies design and reduces development time.
The CP2102 features on-board Eeprom, a voltage regulator, a USB transceiver and an integrated internal oscillator, eliminating the cost and complexity of a crystal and other external components typically required in USB applications.
The device also includes a complete USB 2.0 full-speed function controller, bridge control logic and a UART interface with transmit/receive buffers and modem handshake signals in a small 5 x 5 mm package.
"Silicon Laboratories' small form factor USB to UART bridge provides a seamless upgrade path for any UART interface to USB," said Derrell Coker, vice president of Silicon Laboratories.
"As USB becomes pervasive, particularly in consumer and industrial applications, our highly-integrated, cost-effective devices enable designers to quickly and easily transition to this industry standard." The CP2102 provides enhancements from Silicon Laboratories' CP2101 architecture and is easily implemented into existing designs without any design modifications.
The CP2102 includes a user-friendly wizard for customizing non-standard baud rates and storing OEM vendor ID (VID) and product ID (PID) information.
System development is simplified with the CP2102EK evaluation kit, which includes a complete USB to RS232 evaluation board and royalty-free device drivers for PC and Macintosh platforms.
Pricing and Availability Silicon Laboratories offers the CP2102 packaged in a tiny 5 x 5 mm 28-pin MLP that is pin compatible with the CP2101.
Pricing begins at $2.42 in quantities of 10,000.
The CP2102EK evaluation kit is available now for $49.
