A fourth-generation silicon direct access arrangement IC further reduces the total solution cost and footprint for analogue modems in desktop PCs.

Silicon Laboratories has developed a fourth-generation silicon direct access arrangement (DAA) IC, further reducing the total solution cost and footprint for analogue modems in desktop PCs.

Based on patented isolation technology, Silicon Laboratories' new Si3007 line-side IC paired with the existing Si3052 system-side device and soft-modem software offers a cost-effective, robust solution for the remaining segment of the PCI soft-modem market that currently uses transformer-based DAAs.

Silicon Laboratories' DAAs are the industry's most highly integrated soft-modem chipsets and the choice of leading PC OEMs.

The Si3007, offered in a tiny 8-pin package, further reduces the number of components and board space by an additional 30% allowing for a smaller, more cost-effective modem.

It maintains the industry-leading surge immunity for which Silicon Laboratories' silicon DAAs are known and includes key PC soft-modem features such as ring validation, PC lockup protection and line voltage and loop current monitoring.

In addition to its revolutionary footprint and component count, the Si3007 is compliant with the telecommunications regulations of more than 30 different countries including China, Japan, Taiwan and all of North America.

"Since the launch of Silicon Laboratories' silicon DAA technology more than three-fourths of the PC market has adopted silicon DAAs", said Dave Bresemann, Vice President of Silicon Laboratories.

"The Si3052/Si3007 chipset brings a high-end feature set and the advantages of silicon DAAs to a market segment accustomed to legacy discrete implementations and minimal feature sets".

Silicon Laboratories' new modem solution meets numerous PTT, emissions, immunity and safety standards with the industry's highest surge performance, lowest power dissipation and superior transformerless DAA technology.
