Kit puts MCU to embedded modem duties
A new development kit provides all the hardware and software to create an application with embedded modem connectivity.
Silicon Laboratories has put together an embedded modem development kit that simplifies the development of embedded modem applications.
Leveraging Silicon Laboratories' mixed-signal expertise and market-leading embedded modem technology, the development kit provides all the hardware and software to create an application with embedded modem connectivity.
The development kit is based on the C8051F120, the industry's fastest 8bit microcontroller with 100MIPS throughput, and the market-leading Si2457 ISOmodem embedded modem, a proven two-chip 56Kbit/s globally programmable modem.
Based on a high-speed 8051 core, the C8051F120 includes a 12bit analogue-to-digital convertor, two 12bit digital-to-analogue convertors, 128Kbyte Flash, an internal voltage reference and programmable throughput up to 100Ksample/s.
The Si2457 ISOmodem product is complete with a UART interface, integrated ROM, RAM, digital signal processor and AT command support.
The flexibility, integration and mixed-signal performance offered by the C8051F120 and ISOmodem solutions make the embedded modem development kit ideal for the design of remote management and monitoring applications, vending service calls, dynamic inventory management, security systems and redundant connectivity data paths.
Equipped with Silicon Laboratories' TCP/IP Configuration Wizard, the embedded modem development kit simplifies importing the stack object code by generating the supporting directory structure and framework code as well as a custom library that describes the selected protocol configuration.
The kit also includes Silicon Laboratories' integrated development environment (IDE) allowing the designer to expedite embedded modem designs by illustrating each of the steps to create an application.
Silicon Laboratories' development kit uses the CMX Micronet protocol stack, a robust stack for embedded modem applications.
The embedded modem development kit includes a C8051F120-TB, an AB3 modem adapter board and an Si2457FT18-EVB modem board.
The embedded modem development kit, MODEMDK, is available now for $199.
