Sony will be demonstrating its innovative mobile phone technology solutions at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes from 18th to 22nd February.
With the capability to supply mobile technology solutions for over 70% percent of a mobile handset, Sony can offer phone manufacturers the confidence, security and cost savings of using a first class source for its handset components.
Leading the line up of highly integrated, cost effective solutions is Sony's latest RF innovation, Danube.
Thomas Eichhorst, Product Manager for RF Front End Solutions at Sony Business Europe, explains, "We are proud to be showcasing our front-end module which encompasses a power amplifier, power control and antenna switch.
This will further enable manufacturers to reduce their overall bill of materials." This new module is based on the company's proprietary JPHEMT process and is expected to enhance future GPRS-based phones by delivering increased talk time for consumers and will support all four GSM bands.
Such high functional integration reduces the costs of the RF subsystem by eliminating the need for directional couplers, detector diodes, power control circuitry and drivers for the antenna switch control logic.
Other on-stand highlights will include focuses on camera solutions, LCD display systems and battery technology innovations.
Sony has a range of standard and full custom camera modules based on the company's world-leading CCD and CMOS technology.
The modules are compact, cost-effective and provide best in class imaging performance.
A range of RF solutions for mobile phones including transceivers, antenna switches and PA modules for triple and quad-band GSM, GPRS, Edge and W-CDMA will be on display.
In addition, Sony will be showcasing its single and dual mode 3G devices and modules from its design centre in Japan.
The Sony stand will also contain the latest in polysilicon TFT LCD colour displays, that enable ultracompact handset design with very low power consumption.
Circuit-on-glass and chip-on-glass implementation enables unparalleled levels of integration including quality video processing at very low cost and ultra low power.
Sony is leading battery technology with its latest generation of lithium polymer offerings.
These slim and high-density packages enhance the design freedom of the latest cellular phones.
A number of peripheral solutions for mobile terminals will also be on display.
These include GPS products for location based positioning, Bluetooth for short-range connectivity and Memory Stick for storage and data transfer between devices, adding a new dimension to future multimedia terminals.
