Low-voltage Flash range extends to 8Mbit
The new 8Mbit SST39WF800A 1.8V NOR Flash memory is ideal for power- and space-constrained applications such as MP3 players, Bluetooth modules and GPS devices.
Silicon Storage Technology has expanded its offering of 1.8V NOR Flash memory devices.
Addressing the need for high-performance, low-power and small-footprint memory devices, the new 8Mbit SST39WF800A is offered in several package options, including SST's tiny Micro-Package, the industry's smallest standard Flash memory package, and boasts sector- and chip-erase speeds that are hundreds of times faster than alternative solutions.
The combination of high performance and small size makes the SST39WF800A ideal for power- and space-constrained applications such as MP3 players, Bluetooth modules and GPS devices.
In fact, to date, SST's 1.8V Flash memory devices have been used by a number of the world's leading Bluetooth chipset and module manufacturers.
The SST39WF800A is the latest addition to SST's successful Multi-Purpose Flash (MPF) product family.
The device is pin compatible with SST's 4Mbit 1.8V device as well as the company's 3V 2, 4 and 8Mbit MPF devices, thus providing an easy migration path for customers looking to lower power consumption or increase memory density in their designs.
Because the SST39WF800A is based on SST's SuperFlash technology, the device features several advantages over alternative solutions.
The small sector size of the SST39WF800A allows system designers to easily partition the data and programme code into small, uniform 2Kword segments - 16 times smaller than competitors - resulting in more efficient firmware design, better system performance, reduced power usage and even lower cost due to the firmware size being compacted into a smaller memory density.
The SST39WF800A achieves chip erase times of no more than 200ms, which is 280 times faster than the typical 14s chip erase times of alternative 1.8V Flash memories.
Because of the device's small sector size, the SST39WF800A features a maximum block erase time of 50ms, 300 times faster than the 15s block erase times of alternative solutions.
The device's maximum word programming time of 40us is more than five times faster than the 210us achieved by competing products.
"Our 1.8V product offering gives our customers more options to enhance the functionality of their portable devices without sacrificing battery life or size", said Jason Feinsmith, Business Director, Standard Memory Product Group at SST.
"With the 8Mbit device, we look forward to expanding on the tremendous success our 1.8V products have already experienced in Bluetooth and other wireless markets".
The SST39WF800A is available now, and, in addition to several package options, is available in die and wafer form.
