Southampton Photonics has appointed John Tinson as Vice President of Sales to lead the company's global sales efforts at a time when the company is also extending its redPower fibre laser family.

Southampton Photonics has appointed John Tinson as Vice President of Sales to lead the company's global sales efforts at a time when the company is also extending its redPower fibre laser family with the launch of a low cost 10W CW/M laser module.

Tinson comes to SPI with over ten years' director level experience in both industrial and communications component manufacturing companies.

Most recently Tinson was Speciality and Telecom Business Unit Director at Brand-Rex (part of Novar) covering industrial, military, telecomms and wireless product portfolios.

Prior to joining Brand-Rex Tinson was Sales and Marketing Director at Sifam before the optical business was sold to JDS Uniphase in 1999.

Tinson will oversee the company's strengthening sales position in the industrial laser market, where the company's single-mode fibre lasers are being used in diverse applications, from micromachining to rapid prototyping and will identify new strategic opportunities in other key market segments such as medical and defence.

Southampton Photonics will shortly be announcing a widening of its geographic sales reach by introducing new regional channel partners as well as additional account managers for its direct sales team.

"John brings a wealth of experience in executing winning sales strategies to SPI and I am delighted that he has joined the team at this important stage in the company's development", said David Parker, CEO of Southampton Photonics.

"SPI's advanced industrial lasers offer significant business benefits in terms of line speed, maintenenace costs and total cost of ownership against competitive laser technologies", said Tinson.

"And I am excited at the prospect of expanding SPI's business and adding value to their customers".
