DSP algorithms provide voice and fax
logging
New algorithms provide a highly compact integrated voice and fax logging solution for the TI C54x DSP platform.
Spirit has developed a voice and fax logging solution for the TI C54x DSP platform The software monitors and stores all voice and facsimile traffic passing over the telephone line to which it is attached

DSP-based vocoders use low MIPS and little memory
Moscow-based DSP specialist Spirit has announced the launch of a series of optimised proprietary vocoder solutions in the form of high-quality speech compression algorithms.
Full duplex acoustic echo canceller runs on DSP
Russian DSP software company Spirit has announced the release of highly optimised full duplex acoustic echo canceller (AEC) compliant to ITU-T G.167.
The voice and fax logging solution is currently available for the TI TMS320C54x, and it can be easily ported to other DSP platforms.
As the solution passively listens to the phone line, it detects voice and facsimile (Group 3 Fax) traffic passing through, as well as caller ID data (such as phone number and/or name of the caller), decodes and stores it for further use.
When dealing with fax traffic, the Spirit solution successfully recognises and decodes fax images coded in compliance with T4/T6 standards as well as various system messages.
Both ECM and standard fax transmission modes are supported.
Decoded fax images are saved in BMP or TIFF graphical formats, leaving the user free to view or print the images using standard system tools.
To save storage space, incoming voice data are compressed using industry-proven vocoder algorithms covering bitrates from 5.3 to 64Kbit/s (G.726, G.711, G.723.1 and G.729AB audio compression standards are implemented).
Incoming voice signals are automatically adjusted to a predefined level.
Pauses in speech are detected and are not included in the output, further minimising the storage space.
Voice data are stored in compact bit stream format easily convertible back to standard WAV audio that can be replayed by any generic media player or processed by speech enhancement software.
"The solution is robust and highly optimised, offering reliability and significant reduction of the necessary system resources.
Due to modular design, voice and fax logging modules are entirely independent, making it possible for the user to choose the functionality he needs and avoid unnecessary system load.
Flexible design allows configuring the algorithms to suit the user's specific requirements", said Andrew Sviridenko, CEO of Spirit.
"Spirit's voice and fax logging solution can be used in a range of activities that critically depend on verbal or fax communication, such as security/emergency services, call centers, help desks, medical facilities, governmental institutions, and more".
