New standards for wireless LANs in China
China has officially implemented new standards for wireless LAN equipment (GB15629.11 and GB15629.1102), with a transition period of 6 months.

In light of the SARS epidemic, the Chinese authorities have extended the period of grace for compliance with the new China Compulsory Certification scheme.
Until now, China has used IEEE802.11 and IEEE802.11b standards for 2.4GHz WLAN certification.
There are total of 18 differences between the IEEE standards and GB15629.11/15629.1102.
The major difference is in authentication and privacy.
The new GB standards request that all WLAN products implement WAPI (WLAN authentication and privacy infrastructure) which is detailed in Clause 8 of GB15629.11.
Siemic has complete GB 15629.11 implementation guidelines (in English) to assist WLAN manufacturers in meeting Chinese GB standards.
