Acquisition boards take on Linux drivers
In response to customer requests, the UltraFast range of high-speed A/D, D/A and digital I/O boards from Strategic Test are now supplied with Linux drivers.
Linux kernel 2.6 gives increased stability and near to real-time operating system performance, useful for measurement and signal generation applications.
A single driver supports all of the products and in line with the company's policy on free of charge lifetime software updates it can be downloaded from its company website support area.
The driver source code is also available on request.
This is important since the transition from 2.4 to 2.6 kernels, as increasingly the user needs to recompile the driver on their host PC, particularly if they have modified the distribution for multi-processor operation.
It can also be used to port the driver to other Linux distributions such as Scientific Linux and operating systems including VxWorks.
The same simple programming concept found in the other Windows and Linux drivers has been employed, allowing customers to upgrade their OS without modifying their application code.
