The GemPC Twin uses Gemplus' GemCore hardware and firmware, allowing it to handle all types of ISO7816-compatible smart cards without compatibility problems.
It will also readily adapt to new smart-card services, as they become available and is compatible with Microsoft CCID drivers and all main PC environments including Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Support for other operating systems including Linux and Mac OSX is also available on request.
Operating or using the GemPC Twin requires no technical expertise.
Drivers are downloaded from the Secure Retail website.
The reader can be supplied with either a USB or serial cable, or both.
Both cables are also available separately.
The reader has a green LED connection indicator, and operates from a 5V nominal supply provided via the PC's PS/2 port in serial mode or via the USB port in USB mode.
Available accessories include a base stand for the reader and a 3.5-inch or 5.25inch FDD adapter plus internal USB cables.
The card reader is available at ?24.66 including VAT from the Secure Retail website.
The GemPC Twin supports all major smart card formats currently in use, including ISO7816 Class A, B and C (5V, 3V, 1.8V).
It supports all ISO7816 TA1 parameters up to 344 kbaud, and will read from and write to all ISO7816-1, 2, 3 and 4 microprocessor cards including T=0 and T=1.
Memory card support is also available on request, and embossed cards are also supported.
Further card reader features include short circuit detection, and friction contacts guaranteed for 100,000 insertions.
Operating temperature range is +5 to +55C.
