Adtron has released the first commercially available 2.5in Serial ATA (SATA) Flash drive for defence, aerospace, commercial aviation and industrial applications.

Adtron Corp, the Phoenix Arizona-based embedded data storage manufacturer, used its presence at last week's Farnborough International Air Show to release the first commercially available 2.5in Serial ATA (SATA) Flash drive for defence, aerospace, commercial aviation and industrial applications Designed and tested to MIL-STD-810F specifications, the A25FB SATA Flashpak drive incorporates Adtron's innovative EraSure secure erase technology, designed to provide the fastest "clear" and "sanitise" times available in the market today

Capacities extend to 60Gbyte with sustained read/write performance in the 40Mbyte/s range.

Complete SATA-1 compliance ensures host compatibility and provides hot-swap capability when removing the Flash drive for replacement or upgrade.

Adtron's patent-pending controller technology provides the interface between the Flash media and the host, isolating the host from updates to the media.

SATA technology displaces the IDE/ATA parallel ATA (PATA) interface used for the last decade in many embedded aerospace, commercial aviation and industrial applications.

According to Alan Fitzgerald, Adtron's Chief Technology Officer, SATA offers the advantages of faster bus architecture, longer cable lengths and full compliance with the ATA/ATAPI-6 protocol, providing an easy migration path from PATA to SATA: "Our Flash controller technology and modular design approach enabled us to move very quickly to meet the storage requirements of early SATA adopters", said Fitzgerald.

Quantity pricing for the 16Gbyte A25FB Flashpak Flash drive with industrial temperature (-40 to +85C) rating is $11,200.

A commercial (0 to 70C) rated version is also available.

Lead-time is stock to eight weeks ARO.

A 3.5in SATA Flashpak - the A35FB - featuring capacities up to 64Gbyte will be available soon.

Devices are available in Europe from Spectrum.
