Zilog has launched an Embedded Network Security Kit for its award-winning eZ80Acclaim! family of high-performance 8bit Flash microcontrollers.

This comprehensive kit enables design engineers to develop embedded networking applications over any TCP/IP network that requires secured data transmission using SSL (Secured Socket Layer) technology, such as credit card transactions on POS terminals or vending machines, or critical command and control functions of networked industrial equipment.

The Embedded Network Security Kit includes ZTP, Zilog's feature-rich TCP/IP protocol stack software suite, integrated with a pre-emptive multitasking RTOS and optimised for embedded systems.

ZTP works in harmony with the advanced networking and communication capabilities included in all eZ80Acclaim! devices.

Zilog eZ80Acclaim! microcontrollers combine 50MHz performance with on-chip Flash memory and network connectivity peripherals, making them ideal for a wide range of applications such as industrial control, automation, IP appliances, point-of-sale terminals and security systems.

Modular by design, the new Embedded Network Security Kit is fully compatible with various Zilog Modular Development System (MDS) application boards, providing design engineers with the additional benefit of easy migration between devices.

According to Ramesh Ramchandani, Zilog's Senior Vice President of Marketing, developing applications using SSL would use to typically require 32bit processing power, which can be prohibitively expensive.

"The combination of our high performance eZ80Acclaim! processors and the highly optimised SSL solution in the Embedded Network Security Kit, enables SSL in 8bit applications without the high cost and complexity of 32bit designs".

""Secured" data transmission for any TCP/IP application can now be provided over private or public networks at a more affordable system cost." The International version of the Zilog Embedded Network Security Kit (eZ80F911SSLKIT) is priced at US $450.00.
