Wintegra sees Tier 1 design wins as a significant measure of market acceptance because these companies have very stringent supplier qualification requirements and most communication systems have long lifetimes: "Tier 1s only allow financially stable companies with unique technology onto their ever-shrinking approved vendor lists", added O'Dell.
The market has validated Wintegra's offering of state-of-the-art silicon targeted at access systems, and "field-hardened" production-quality datapath software that most customers deem production worthy and use "as is".
Provided by Wintegra royalty free and with no NRE charges, this software includes over 40 protocols specifically developed for Wintegra's targeted vertical markets.
"Wintegra's Tier 1 design wins indicate that the company's early focus on delivering access-specific processors has paid off", said Sanjay Iyer, Senior Analyst at the Linley Group and co-author of the report "A guide to access processors".
"Wintegra leads the access NPU market with its innovative hardware and portfolio of production-ready software suites that target all major access applications".
Wintegra ended 2004 continuing its quarter-over-quarter revenue growth established in 2003.
The company's broad acceptance in the DSL market has been accompanied by significant presence in multiservice access designs, access routers and especially wireless infrastructure.
Year 2004 production volumes reflected the early WinPath design wins established in 2002 and 2003.
Wintegra is represented throughout Europe by the Spectrum Electronics Group of independent sales and marketing organisations.
