Cypress and Cavium work together

A Spectrum Group product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Sep 8, 2005

Two companies represented in Europe by Spectrum Electronics are co-operating in providing solutions for next-generation networking systems designs.

Independent sales and marketing representative group Spectrum Electronics has announced that two of the companies it represents in Europe are co-operating in providing solutions for next-generation networking systems designs.

Cavium Networks and Cypress Semiconductor are each a leader in their field.

The two companies will provide joint reference designs illustrating innovative joint solutions for access, edge and core networking applications.

According to Olaf Houtepen, Spectrum's European Product Manager for the Cavium line, the alliance will initially be based around Cavium's Octeon EXP integrated control and data plane processor family and Cypress's Ayama network search engines (NSEs).

"Octeon EXP processors and Cypress's NSE products have already been widely adopted by our networking, storage and wireless infrastructure customers in their router, intelligent switch, multiservice access equipment, multiprotocol storage switch, border session gateway and other related networking infrastructure equipment", Houtepen said.

"Application layer processing has accelerated their need for deep-packet classification technology in their next generation applications".

"This alliance will prove to be a giant leap forward in meeting this requirement".

Cypress and Cavium will work together to supply reference designs, application notes and developer's kits that customers can use to quickly and inexpensively deploy leading-edge networking equipment.

Applications engineers from both companies will work together to support the reference designs and offer customers comprehensive application-level solutions.

"Engineers will soon have access to proven ternary CAM and algorithmic based lookup solutions", continued Houtepen.

"The combination of Cypress' look-up acceleration technology and Cavium's Octeon EXP processor will provide OEM vendors with a new level of packet processing performance with general-purpose processor cores programmable using C/C++".
