A novel compact disc hard disc drive audio player/recorder design targets low-cost embedded electronic products capable of storing and recording an entire CD collection on a single device.

Sensaura has developed a complete compact disc (CD) hard disc drive (HDD) audio player/recorder design codenamed Jennifer II Sensaura is targeting the manufacturing-ready product at low cost embedded electronic products such as car infotainment systems and portable devices capable of storing and recording an entire CD collection on a single device

"Sensaura is slashing cost and time to market for OEM with the provision of manufacturing ready audio IP solutions.

The Jennifer II CD HDD is a box of tricks that enables a week's worth of audio to be stored and replayed.

It incorporates all the functions of a CD recorder in a single system", said David Blagden, Business Development Manager, Sensaura.

The announcement of Jennifer II follows the launch of Sensaura's audio intellectual property (IP) brokerage in August 2003.

The company has developed the world's most extensive portfolio of audio IP including its own products and proven third party IP.

Based around a low-cost Texas Instruments TMS320VC5416 DSP the audio CD HDD incorporates compression techniques to enable 200h of music to be stored onto a 10Gbyte disk.

It can simultaneously play and record music.

The CD system can record audio at high speed and playback using an inbuilt audio encoder/decoder software specified by a customer.

In addition it can also make an analogue/digital recording from an external input.
