Drive enclosure supports faster SCSI interface
A new version of the InfoStation 12-bay drive enclosure for Serial ATA (SATA) or Parallel ATA (PATA) drives supports SCSI Ultra320 system interfaces.
Drive enclosure proves compatibility
StorCase Technology has recently demonstrated the complete compatibility of its updated Data Silo DS321 FireWire 800 twin-bay expansion chassis with Pro Tools' HD-Accel editing software.
The new InfoStation 16-bay 3U, with its additional drive density per rack space, was built on that previous product experience combined with a long-held StorCase reputation for SCSI design expertise.
By incorporating SATA drives, a fully integrated InfoStation 16-bay RAID system can be purchased for approximately a third the price of a traditional SCSI (SCSI drives) system.
In performance tests, this SCSI-to-SATA enclosure has demonstrated comparable results to that of traditional SCSI enclosures.
StorCase SCSI-to-SATA products have also already been proven in the field as critical components in demanding data access applications such as HD video editing.
"We believe that StorCase's newest SATA 3U InfoStation RAID enclosure will provide the marketplace with a compelling price, performance and data-density combination previously unavailable with earlier technologies", said Joel Tang, Director of Engineering at StorCase Technology.
The 3U rack mount model has been added to the StorCase InfoStation line of SCSI backplane enclosures specifically to support up to 16 SATA drives for a variety of RAID applications.
Each 3U enclosure includes an integrated high-performance RAID controller and supports two SCSI Ultra320 (LVD/SE) host channels.
Unique features are included, such as the Data Master graphical user interface (GUI) for basic management functions with options for remote access, email event notification and multiple enclosure management functions, and an integrated SAF-TE processor with StorCase SAFTEmon web-based management software.
The InfoStation is downward compatible with earlier SCSI technologies.
Future 16-bay models will also support Fibre Channel host interfaces and include an integrated fibre-to-SATA RAID controller.
