Spansion is to integrate Discretix's CryptoFlash security technology into its security processor for its Flash-memory based security solutions for handsets Discretix, based in Netanya, Israel, is a leader in embedded security solutions for Flash memory and portable devices

Spansion's memory-based handset security solution is designed to protect valuable consumer data, content and code for all segments of the handset market.

Spansion's secure Flash memory solution, which includes the Discretix CryptoFlash security technology, will be offered to customers as a security processor integrated into a Spansion multichip package (MCP), with sampling planned for the first half of 2007.

Depending on the handset configuration, the Spansion MCP will also include some of the following: Spansion MirrorBit NOR Flash memory, Spansion MirrorBit ORNAND solutions, pSRAM or DRAM.

"Spansion's collaboration with innovative companies in Israel, like Discretix, reinforces our commitment to continually deliver advanced technology and added value solutions to customers".

"By leveraging Discretix's cryptography expertise in embedded security solutions and Spansion's MirrorBit technology and system security expertise, we can introduce new classes of secure, mobile products and expand the market opportunities for our customers", said Bertrand Cambou, President and Chief Executive Officer of Spansion.

The BIRD Foundation (Israeli-US Binational Industrial Research and Development), an organisation that promotes strategic partnerships and joint research and development between Israeli and American companies plans to provide financial support for the technology co-operation between Spansion and Discretix.

"As the handset increasingly becomes the universal device for making purchases, downloading content and accessing corporate databases, operators and users are demanding new levels of mobile security", said Gal Salomon, CEO and founder of Discretix.

"Device theft and fraud are growing issues that require improved solutions to protect important personal and financial information now stored on the handset".

"Combining the advanced benefits of our CryptoFlash and Spansion's MirrorBit technology will create more secure memory solutions for the wireless market".
