Electronics recycler expands into Belgium
With the opening of its latest WEEE recycling facility in Belgium, Sims Recycling Solutions now operates eight facilities across Europe.
Sims Recycling Solutions has opened a new WEEE recycling facility in Sint Niklass, Belgium.
The new facility is part of Sims continued growth in Europe, which now sees it operating eight facilities across the continent.
The new site, officially opened by Belgium's Minister of the Environment, is capable of handling 40,000 tonnes of WEEE per year, with the collection of raw materials such as copper, synthetic materials, metal and glass from electronic and electrical waste the main purpose of the plant.
The opening of the site will create 50 new jobs by the end of the year.
"The strength of our European infrastructure is there for all to see", says Graham Davy, Managing Director for Sims Recycling Solutions' global operations.
"The expertise and knowledge we have acquired via our network in Europe is allowing Sims to grow on a global basis".
"The new Sint Niklass facility will further cement our position as the world's largest integrated electronics recycling business".
Earlier this year, Sims announced the acquisition of the two largest electronics recyclers in North America, further expanding the Sims network and increasing processing capability up to 250,000 tonnes.
The news came hot on the heels of the company's announcement that it is to build a GBP 8 million WEEE facility at its Newport operation, increasing the size of the site by 12 acres.
