Keyboard suits explosive environments

A Staco Systems product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Jul 1, 2008

The M77903 has a USB cable with threaded couplings and O-ring seals that will not produce sparks and resists water, dust, corrosion and electrical discharges.

Staco Systems' M77903 intrinsically safe keyboard is designed for hazardous and explosive environments in the oil and gas, coal mining, granary, power plant and chemical manufacturing industries.

Intrinsic safety (IS) is a protection technique for the safe operation of electronic equipment in explosive atmospheres.

Electrical equipment often creates internal tiny sparks that can ignite flammable substances in the air.

The M77903 has a USB cable with threaded couplings and O-ring seals that will not produce sparks and it carries an IP67 rating, guaranteeing protection against water, dust, corrosion and electrical discharges.

"The M77903 still upholds all of the features found on our existing rugged, watertight sealed keyboards", says Thanh Nguyen, Senior Product Manager at Staco Systems.

"The different is that the M77903 is Factory Mutual approved for Class I Division II, making it the perfect solution for protection against falling dirt, sand and dust blasting, rain, sleet, snow, salt spray, chemicals and radiated emissions".

The M77903 comes with a built-in touchpad pointer control with left and right mouse buttons.

It includes a single USB connection, dimmable backlighting and one-touch emergency key.
