Agreement assures camera chip supplies

1st Silicon (Malaysia) and mSilicon of Korea have embarked on a manufacturing agreement that will result in the delivery of wafers to Mtekvision, the leading fabless semiconductor company in Korea.

1st Silicon (Malaysia) and mSilicon of Korea have embarked on a manufacturing agreement that will result in the delivery of wafers to Mtekvision, the leading fabless semiconductor company in Korea.

Under terms of the agreement, 1st Silicon will supply Mtekvision with 0.18um products for use in mobile cameras.

The initial production ramp up commenced this November.

1st Silicon's Chief Executive Officer, Dr John Nelson said: "Given our strategy of serving a diverse customer base, we are proud to be Mtekvision's chosen foundry".

"This partnership is a fitting move for all three companies and demonstrates the leverage gained through synergistic collaboration".

Dr Nelson added: "1st Silicon is very happy to have engaged with Mtekvision, the number one fabless company in Korea (according to Korea Association of IT SoC in year 2004)".

"We are keen to further sustain this alliance and will pursue this business relationship on long-term basis with Mtekvision".

Mtekvision's Executive Senior Vice-President, Jonathan Jung commented: "We are very satisfied with 1st Silicon's technology capability and their ability to bring about first-prototype success and production ramp in the shortest time".

"We look forward for future long-term collaboration with 1st Silicon and hope to further advance our joint business alliance".

CEO of mSilicon Jennifer Bae said: "We are pleased to team up with 1st Silicon, Malaysia's premium fab, to provide both design and wafer manufacturing services to Mtekvision".

"Our experienced manufacturing and design teams will help to ensure a smooth ramp-up".
